Journalist Hiroo Otaka and market research firm Oricon
compiled the list of top 10 films at the Japanese office for 2013 - all of which earned 3 billion yen (about US$30 million) or more. The rankings for four films below the top 10 are to be determined since two of the films are still playing.

Even if the movie is good the handling of it has been so piss poor that it's no shock it's done bad. ....Oh and Jin's fan loss.

My theory is that since you can't really translate a lot of what makes Ted truly gross into Japanese (the film is R15 in Japan), he just becomes "ecchi". And Japan has not many big movies that have more adult humor, so it ended up filling a niche and becoming a huge hit. They even made a R12 version, so younger kids could see it.

Japanese box office is pathetic. The top movie only grossed 120 million USD. Small change for Hollywood.
