I actually believe the denials. When they're actually dating they just maintain a dignified silence and refuse to answer any questions, whereas when it's not true they'll give a statement saying so.

That's one of the reasons that the Jin/Meisa thing became such a massive scandal. Because their agencies issued denials thinking that they were just friends, only to be told a few days later that they were married and expecting. It made a fool out of the agencies, and they didn't like it.
