"they were monitored through MRI scans while they slept. When they’re starting to fall asleep, researchers woke them up and asked them to describe what they were dreaming about. The procedure was repeated 200 times"
Well I hope the paycheck's good. I hate when something interrupted my going-to-sleep phase
"to predict the images that people were seeing in the early stages of sleep" This phrase is weird.People are supposed to dream during REM.But REM isn't the early stage of sleep,it's the fourth stage. So what kind of images they claim they decode? And three people is an acceptable sample for a pilot research. They need a bigger sample for their next research.
You don't have dreams when you're in a light sleep? The slight sliver of my mind that's still awake can tell I'm falling asleep when my thoughts start getting wackier than normal. Dreaming can happen in non-REM sleep.
In the early stages of sleep you can see random images and you can wake up easily anytime.During REM your whole body except your eyes doesn't move at all that's how we know that people dream during REM.In researches where subjects were waken up before entering REM they didn't remember seeing anything.
