Okay. Now I finally understand why SoundScan numbers ALWAYS lower than Oricon. I just found out about SoundScan few month ago, so I had no idea why ^^;

Oh please, not ALWAYS. Just for example:

Note that Soundscan doesn't cover stores like AKB shops and mu-mo/Avex shops, that's why you're not seeing AKB/Avex artists selling much.

Lately, Soundscan seems to cover more small/suburban/countryside stores compared to Oricon, but Oricon still covers the bigger ones more.

As for 8EST, it's 362k+ on Soundscan vs 363k+ on Oricon.

And then Ai Deshita sold 324k on Soundscan vs 320k on Oricon. Aoppana however, sold more on Oricon with 239k vs Soundscan with 234k.

Also very very interesting to note, Soundscan vs Oricon numbers. Singles-wise, ER sold 380k on Soundscan, while 374k on Oricon.

It's interesting to see the akb numbers without the theatre editions, they're still pretty high but I didn't realise Uza did as low as it did even with 6 versions counted.

Personally I think I prefer soundscan charts over oricons. It's not that I don't think theatre editions or special johnny shop versions shouldn't count as sales but the oricon numbers just always look a bit false instead of a reflection of popularity when you know it's just fans buying multiple editions.

edit: out of curiosity does anyone know the best place to see soundscan's weekly charts? It'd be interesting in the weekly oricon single/album/dvd arama posts to have the soundscan numbers too sometimes.

Here: http://www.phileweb.com/ranking/ Someone provided this link before. I think around the time YamaPi lost his number 1 spot to the Korean artist.

wow some numbers are lower than oricon which is understandable but then you have force by superfly selling 241k but the oricon numbers say 216k???

It's possible that Soundscan counted smaller stores that Oricon didn't count.

Just curious, what does "bonus editions of the CDs are not counted." means?
