Anonymous targets Sony over SOPA, Nintendo quietly withdraws support

Sony and  Nintendo  were previously on the House of Representatives’ list of SOPA supporters. Now Nintendo has disappeared from the list, and only Sony’s music divisions remain. The companies, hoping to avoid drawing attention, have yet to acknowledge the change or make any public ( Read more... )

I read this yesterday. That's not ok. We're complaining about SOPA and PIPA and what it can do to internet stability and then they turn around and what? mess with internet stability...right.

You know, I could almost get behind their message until the petty attacks on pop stars. Granted, I'm not a fan of some of those people myself, but it is not in the same league as restricting online freedom. Don't even go there.

Not to mention, that makes their message extremely hypocritical. They go on and on about freedom of expression, and then they want people to not be allowed to produce crappy pop music. Um, aren't you restricting their freedom of expression too? They are allowed to suck, and you are allowed to ignore them. They're not doing anything illegal or hurtful, they're just ubiquitous. Don't cheapen your message by being petty.

Edited to clarify: The reason why I think their "declaration of fury" is stupid is because of the word "allegedly". There's no documentation or public record of these people supporting SOPA, and I'm sure there are other artists on this list of "allegedly". Anonymous is looking for a reason to hate these people.

It's implied. Look at who they targeted: some of the artists with both the biggest fandoms and hatedoms in the world. I'm sure if we looked over the list of celebrities who allegedly support SOPA and PIPA, we'd find plenty of Indie and Alternative and all different genres. Anonymous has chosen to single out the ones that piss them off outside of SOPA for reasons of personal taste alone. From what it sounds like, they just want an excuse to take these people down.

They're targeting ones who get lots of spotlight and have some of the biggest fandoms of people who would go along with what the artists say despite hearing the voice of the people on the internet. Why go after Jo-Schmo, who could probably get 100 people to agree with him on SOPA, when they can go after someone who could get thousands of people to agree with them? Because if someone hears that a hacker is going to try to pry into their personal lives, they'll probably go look up what they're about and their message which could convince that person to withdrawal from their supporting position.

Besides, you never know, they could be just trolling (which is what many other sites are predicting).
