Well the first one was already screened in America nationwide... but it seems like the second has no plans.
Second was great in theaters though, haven't read the manga so just loved it for what it was ^^ Since the anime just ended without any real resoluations.
I was lucky enough to snag a ticket to each of the movies when they played at the Japan Society in New York with subs last week.
That said, speaking as someone who has no interest in the manga and couldn't get into the anime, I mainly went because I seem to learn something about acting every time I see Nino in a movie.
Someone here said the first was better than the second, but I thought the opposite was true--the second movie held my attention a lot better. Maybe that's just because I don't know the Gantz world very well? Or maybe because the second dealt more with people and less with CG aliens. The ending seemed kind of like a deus ex machina combined with "we only have 15 minutes left so let's use up the rest of our SFX budget!" But I admit I did almost cry. Almost.
Certainly not in my Top 5 Japanese movies, but it was definitely worth seeing at least once.
frankly it's better to watch if you dont expect anything from it more like i was afraid to expect much from it when the first came out xD gosh, i super cant wait for the 2nd movie to come out where i am~~ am so getting the DVDs <33
Also, I'm shocked that we don't have a Nino tag. they do have a nino tag, what's a jpop gossip/news website without individual arashi member tags? XD
The first movie was great, and I went back to see it 3 times in theaters.
The second one was meh and left so many questions unanswered that I found the title highly ironic. One time was enough and the ending was super predictable. Sadness :/
The first film is scheduled for release on both DVD and Blu-ray in the U.S. on August 30. I've been wanting to do a post about it for my comm, but VIZ/New People hasn't sent out PR for it yet, so no one has much in the way of details. I think the DVD is supposed to have 2-discs, though, so I'm guessing we'll get some pretty decent special features.
