I saw a knockout version of the Ring of Barahir on War of the Ring the other day that I'd never seen before. I really love this Decipher version

i just realised by my reaction to this post that i am quite obsessed with this particular ring, with its story, the people who wore it.
i like the decipher version myself -- the movie one is somehow too sleek and gawth costume jewellery -ish.
i always found it interesting in the serpent symbolism depicted in the ring. i read somewhere snakes etc along with wolves and birds of carrion were considered dark creatures or similar because they were corrupted and used for evil purposes by morgoth and sauron... i don't believe there are other mentions in the ardaverse of serpents?
Yay, share the Ring of Barahir obsessionlove! I'm really into various other artifacts of Aragorn's house as well, but the Ring of Barahir is such a pure example of binding, love, and loyalty that it's a special favorite.
I was vaguely disappointed in the movie version. . . . the movie one is somehow too sleek and gawth costume jewellery -ish. Thank you for putting my feelings into words. Plus I couldn't tell that one of the snakes was eating the flowers, so it didn't even seem like an accurate version. The Decipher one is raw and powerful and First Age to me.
At this point, I freely confess that I have only read parts of The Silmarillion and don't know anything about serpent symbolism in Arda. Although I suspect that there might be parallels with Christian symbolism. The yin/yang aspect (one supporting/one devouring) and, omg twins again! might also be meaningful. I'll check the index of Tolkien's letters later to see if there's anything on serpents there.
Nothing on the Ring o' Barahir in Tolkien's letters. Might check Encyclopedia of Arda or Council of Elrond or summat. I've never been v. good at symbolism, my mind is too literal, but it's fun to speculate.
Oh, I love the history behind the ring of Barahir (along with Narsil/Anduril). I think I once wrote a haiku on Barahir...
I've never seen the Decipher version of it. I like it, though I do like the movie's one as well; it just needs to be slightly more worn, thinks I (or is that just a replica you have posted?)
Say, somewhat offtopic, but I noticed that you linked Aragorn fan fiction on this journal; what type of Aragorn fan fiction do you look for?
The movieverse picture was from a version offered by the Noble Collection through New Line Cinema's store, I think. Which would be a replica, rather than the prop actually used in the movie, but the movieversion looks about the same as much as I can tell
