This is probably going to sound really inane, but he makes a magnificent and gracious corpse! That really didn't come out right - he makes you believe that he was the King of Men for many years and ruled well and the grief when he died was deep and long-lasting.

Tolkien writes that, at his death, his youth, manhood, wisdom, and majesty were revealed, which is pretty much what you said. Maybe substitute graceful for gracious corpse, and then it's nearly exactly what Tolkien said about the grace of his youth revealed.

He had a long and full life, and prob. no quality of life issues toward the end. He was truly blessed.
