Just another week in what Amanda's mother would call, in a rural Alabama accent, "this HELLhole." Amanda and I went to Puerto Viejo (a Jamaican colony on the Atlantic coast) with her parents this weekend. It wash beautiful, and they paid for Everything. Question: so why exactly do you dislike Costa Rica so much??

I do like some parts of Costa Rica. Some of the beaches and rainforests are the most beautiful places I've seen. But during the week I'm in San Jose, which is probably the ugliest place I've seen. There's trash everywhere, it's smelly, none of the perks of living in a big city (there's not a lot to do), and up until a week ago, when the rainy season stopped, it rained all of the time. I was expecting a more colonial setting with rich culture, but that's not what I got. I also thought I'd be studying AT the university, but I'm at an American institution NEAR it. So it's been hard to meet locals, which I was also looking forward to.
