I am a pretty big Lincoln fan, I guess is the word. I've read literally dozens and dozens of book on him. I can recite the Gettysburg Address as the drop of a hat. That line just gutted me so hard!

I just watched this yesterday, and yeah, I started bawling when he said the line, "I suppose it's time to go, but I would rather stay," and it faded out on a back shot of him walking out the door. I honestly think that the movie should have ended there since it packed such a big punch. The rest of the ending just felt tacked on. That's my only real complaint about the film (and it's not even a big one. Just, you know, emotionally it felt complete right there, but clearly Spielberg wanted to show how his death affected everyone and add on that speech at the end).

I don't disagree with this. I do think he could have ended stronger after that with the speech, shooting, but it didn't the OOMPH! of an ending that ending it there would have.

I felt like I was watching West Wing, 1860s style.

It was just so good and uplifting.
