Yeah, now that you mention it, I remember my mom (a choreographer) constantly drilling it in to smile, smile, smile. So, yeah, that's definitely part of it. Never even thought of that. Again, though, I liked that Ryan had a reason, whereas with Ashley it didn't fit at ALL, and even contradicted what she clearly knew the routine was about.
Missy and Wadi were definitely the most off for me. Not in sync, the disconnect was almost palpable to me. And in such a bizarrely staged routine, that's kind of a killer.
Yes, exactly.
I don't know, I'm thinking we're going to be thinking a lot alike during this. Maybe because we both have some sort of background in choreographed dance? I'm not sure, but we definitely seem on sync here (certainly more than some of the dancers, LOL!).
I really wish they wouldn't do that! (They definitely subject female dancers to it more too, of course.) But yes, at least Ryan had a reason to be smiling, even though she had to communicate it later rather than through the dance.
But I also love Sonya, so I can see where you and I are going to disagree quite a bit this season.
BUT.
I LOVED. LOVED. LOVED. LOVED Melanie and Marko's routine. LOVED. Did I mention how much I loved that routine? She's been a favorite of mine since the auditions and this sort of solidified it for me.
Worst routine for me was Ashley & Chris.
I adore Robert, but totally agree that the WOOO is going to get old really quickly.
Loved Nick. Something about Iveta rubs me the wrong way though. She's too formal, I think and I'm sure that comes from all her ballroom competitions. She needs to lighten up a little bit. Plus, she's the only one who didn't seem really excited when she found out her partner. That came across as a little snobbish to me. *shrugs* She's a fantastic dancer though.
Nah, I think we'll actually agree a bit -- except when it comes to Sonya routines, LOL! Because, other than the Wadi/Missy routine -- and yeah, we're not always going to like the same routines -- we definitely agreed with everything else you remarked upon.
Can I just say I am late to the show and just watch last week and this week show. I too loved Wadi and Missy's routine. It was poweful but like you I love Sonya too. I too she creates all these beautiful moments that are technically difficult yet for me it looked divine.
Marko is my favorite guy, his dancing ability and his strength is so commanding, I can't keep my eyes of him. My favorite girl is Missy and their intro dance was so good because they are both Jazz dancers. Melanie is such a strong dancer that her with Marko just created magic. Love that routine too.
Nick is just so darn adorable.
I agree with Jen, I find Ryan constant smiling distracting but Ashley was definitely worse.
I agree with you on most of it. Ricky and Ashley both kind of ruined their routines for me with their perma-smiles....glad I'm not the only one. Because I was really loving the hip-hop routine...but alas....
Melanie and Marko were fabulous. I've loved Melanie since her audition and she is not disappointing in any way.
Also so happy to see you loving on Nick. Together they were amazing. I hope Iveta doesn't off put people and put him in danger. Iveta is clearly older and more experienced then the rest of the group, but I firmly believe she loves to dance and she wanted to experience to do something new and different....she feels a bit removed at times but I think that is just...well expected considering. I hope other people rationalize that too....or love Nick so much they keep them for a time. I think as a duo they work really well together.
