Nope, wow, you missed my posts back when it happened. I started on labor day last year. I'm a nanny/household assistant/a crapload of other stuff. It's a LOT of work, but the pay and benefits are great, and the baby is SENSATIONAL. I like the older kids too a lot.
RE: Icons. You win. That's the only ES icon I have. The majority of my icons are now TVD-related. SO OBSESSED WITH THAT SHOW LIKE NO OTHER EVER IN THE HISTORY OF MY TV-SHOW OBSESSIONS.
I'm a Pittsburgh gal, so I knew I'd be backing Hines Ward no matter what, but I'm so glad that he's actually *really* good! And I can only see him getting better and better. Besides having a natural athletic grace, he also has great showmanship, and he looks so damn happy just to be dancing. When I watch him make plays in football, I love watching his face after because he always has the biggest smile (regardless of how hard he's just been hit), and he had the same smile during his entire routine. I love him!
I was also super impressed with Ralph Macchio. I didn't expect him to be that graceful, and like Hines, I can only see him getting better. Plus, seriously, *how* is that man 49? Did he make a deal with the devil or something?
Overall, I think this season will be really good. I just hope Wendy gets her act together. I want her to stay on as long as possible so Joel McHale gets to keep making fun of her on The Soup.
Other than Kirstie and Ralph, I have no real connection to any of the others stars, and it's not anything deep with those two so my like is based solely on their little intros and dancing tonight, and Hines really shone for me on that count! :)
I am a casual viewer but I pretty much agree with everything you've said.
Kirstie surprised me the most. I didn't expect her to be able to move as well as she did. She has a strong fanbase and I think she'll go very far, especially with Maks as her partner. I'm more interested in seeing how much weight she loses than her dancing. That's one of my favorite parts of the series.
Ralph is my fave but I'm not totally surprised he'd do well. The little preview bits of him dancing showed him to be pretty fluid. Plus, as much as he complained about his old body, his hilarious "Wax on, **** Off" video on Funny or Die last year had him doing his old karate kick which meant he was still pretty flexible. Add the fact that he must have had to train a lot to be in the Karate Kid movie and that he probably has that same discipline now with dancing, he should get better as the series goes on.
Kirstie really surprised me and that was me going in expecting her to be good based on the little bit I had heard about the show. She was just amazing.

I thought the exact same thing, especially when you take into account her weight-loss efforts in the past.
I don't know who's my fave, Kirstie or Ralph, I just know that they are definitely the two I'm rooting for the most at this point. :)
Kirstie was amazing, though I think she needs to stop behaving like such a ditz off the dance floor or she's going to turn a lot of people off. She almost appeared drunk or stoned a couple times in the package. Right now she's my front runner. I loved Ralph, too. You can definitely see the grace of movement that made him so good at karate. I like Chelsea as a distand third. I agree on Lacey's hair. Going blonde last season took me a long time to adjust to, but I don't think I can adjust to the way it is now. She needs to pick a color (preferrabley brunette) and stay with it.
Ah, but I think that it IS Kirstie Alley, based on all I know about her, she is a wacky ditz. I know that when she played Rebecca on Cheers, the completely overhauled the character from the frosty, cold bitch originally intended (and portrayed) to a more neurotic, ditz and that was because of how vulnerable and likable that aspect of Kirstie Alley was.
