I am generally in agreement with your Top 5. Lauren Alaina is my baby and I really enjoyed Lauren Turner as well. I thought Thia sounded good but her constant smiling really bugged me because I love that song and it's just not that happy.
Pia's powernotes were a little unnecessary, though I think it doesn't help that the beginning of the song was very soft and she didn't build to it; it just kind of came out of nowhere. And I remember Carrie singing that song on Idol and I loved Carrie's version.
Haley Reinhart is going to be so embarrassed when she watches that performance because she looked like she'd been hitting the bottle. It was just...not good.
Ah, I didn't notice the smiling with Thia actually. I don't know why. Both Lauren's were great, but Alaina is so my favorite.

I think you nailed my issue with the first power note. The second/last worked for me because it came out of that first one, but yeah, the first wasn't built to.
eolivet, it will break my heart if you still don't like her.
Aww. :( I can't deny that was a great performance. I can't deny she has talent. But I can tell she's going to be one of those contestants (similar to Carrie) where I enjoy the performance, and want to spin through the judge comments. Because..."I can tell you're holding back?" "You have so much more to show us?" After that performance? Wha?! That just smacks of Uncle Nigel's puppet strings. Especially when these judges were pretty much effusive for everyone -- those were the only comments of the night that felt...staged.
But I know none of that is Lauren's fault, so I will try not to hold it against her. ;)
Likewise, I thought the standing-O for Pia felt disingenuous (and totally a way to throw attention off Lauren. Sorry, I just don't trust Uncle Nigel as far as I can throw him ;p ) She was good, but she wasn't that great, I agree -- it made her seem overpraised (sadly, that was probably the point
( ... )
Oh, I agree re: Uncle Nigel's machinations. Dude, it's already obvious. Casey Abrams and Lauren Alaina are the planned final two. No question. I'm just grateful that both are so damned talented.

This. Girl was amazing. Way to give her a complex.
Everything else I agree on, except I really did like Thia.
I will no longer speak of the butchering of my beloved "Breakaway."
Just finished watching the girls. Lauren Alaina is definitely my favorite girl, actually my favorite period, but unlike you, I really like Haley. I think she's my second choice, followed by Lauren Turner third. I like Thia and Pia and think they are both really good, but I just wasn't as impressed with them as the judges were. Their voices are very pretty, but their stage presence was kind of...eh.

I'm so glad we have another fandom in common! :)

I do like Haley a lot more than you do! Her tone works for me.
