Glee Christmas CD - okay one song

Nov 28, 2010 07:36

I really like their "God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman" but then I get frustrated when Dianna Agron (Quinn) sings her one line and sounds absolutely lovely, and that's it ... followed up by Naya Rivera singing a whole crapload of lines and in *this* type of song not sounding even remotely as nice as Dianna. It's bad enough she's practically absent from ( Read more... )

You know, I understood when RACHEL had the biggest part of the show, because she has a great voice. And she's an interresting character: jealous, ambitious, ... all in all very human.
But Santana & Brittany? That's FANSERVICE!
Have you heard? Santana is taking Rachel's solo at the selectionals.
Against Darren Criss (& Kurt) THEY'RE SO GONNA LOOSE!!! :S

Yes, it is.

I hadn't heard as I don't follow spoilers for Glee, but, I'm not surprised. :sigh:

I haven't heard the album but I think it's totally weird that the Christmas album has religious songs (there's plenty of holiday songs that aren't Jesus-inspired) when they were so against that in Grilled Cheesus.

That type of logic does not occur to the business peoples making the decisions. :rolls eyes:

I don't even like Quinn or her voice all that much (though I think Dianna is lovely), but she's definitely the most mis-used character on Glee. They virtually did nothing with her pregnancy in the back nine or the aftermath of her pregnancy this season. Instead she gets a boring romance with boring Sam? Snooze. As for her voice, I think it has a nice sweet quality to it when used well (like in "Lucky" and the verses she got in "Marry You"). I love Naya's voice, but it has a brassy quality to it that works for some songs (like "River Deep Mountain High") but not for others. I like seeing the other Cheerios more, but I think they could give all three of them stuff together instead of just promoting Brittany and Santana and shunting Quinn off to the side.

Quinn just grew on me throughout season one (mainly because of what Dianna brought to the role), and I'll be the first to admit that she doesn't have the strongest voice. Other than Brittany, she has the weakest, but like you said, on the right songs she sounds absolutely lovely (like the two you mentioned, plus also "Papa Don't Preach" -- not that it was recorded, grr!). And in "God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman," she sounded gorgeous. Naya Rivera? Not so much. You're right when you say she has a brassy voice that while great doesn't fit all songs. This was such the case.

Agreed; I thought it was great when Brittany and Santana were promoted, but I didn't realize it would be at the expense of Quinn. GRRR!

I'm actually ready for Dianna to leave the show at this point. The writers don't have any interest in her and she's getting some real opportunities in other projects.

I hope that I Am Four does really well, and that her role is more than just the "girlfriend" (it sounds like it is), and that the show either starts using her, or lets her go because as a Dianna/Quinn fan, it's just pathetic now. Grr!

When I first listened to the CD with my husband, I was sort of not paying attention and was like "Aww, that's Mercedes and Quinn! That's so cool -- the two 'religious' gals." Then, I listened to it with my sister yesterday and she was like "Uh...that's Santana." I was like WTF...what does she have to do with religion?

Bottom line: you can give solos to Amber and Lea, because plot-related or not, it's just gorgeous to hear them sing. But Naya doesn't merit that kind of treatment, not by a longshot (and certainly not for something as traditional as a Christmas carol :/ )

This! And I'm just getting so tired of Quinn/Dianna being shafted. Harrumph!
