Nah, I can't stand him, but that will never (rightfully) happen. From 2002 to 2007 (or some such figure) he apparently won EVERY SINGLE COMPETITION HE ENTERED except for one. In that one, he came in 2nd. And honestly, a silver at the Olympics? Not something to sneeze at.
I may not be his biggest fan, but I gotta give credit where it's due.
I dislike Plushenko. Always have, since his very early days. I hate with the passion his trainer, who is an asshole with the giant "ass." Having said that, the guy is a competitor to the core, and it's worth noting.
And now that he is most likely to retire for real, I have a new wish: for Lysacek to do likewise. He got his gold, he should just get the hell away from this sport and off my screen. Every tin man has his well-oiled day, but if I have to sit through another program of his, I might fall into a coma. I don't give a shit how brilliant he supposedly is. He puts me in coma. Btw, loved the "tweet" from the Fug girls:
"Lysacek's costume is what I imagine Draco Malfoy would wear if Voldemort let him take to the ice. -H"
LOL.
Urgh. Weir was underscored. Yes, his program is easier, blah, blah. But that's my contention with today's skating, anyway: the programs are too overloaded. They lose balance, flow, and all sense. They are a timed To Do lists put to music.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I thought Evan was boring as shit. My tweet on the subject read: I'm sorry, but Evan Lysacek is SOOOOO boring!!!!!!! And I stand by that, but compared to Plushenko, and my lovely Takahashi (who fell on that damn quad), Evan deserved it.

This so much. For me, Jeremy Abbott and Daisuke Takahashi are the only ones I've seen who can truly balance that "to do list" with the beauty, grace, flow and balance. But it's a rare gift, most can not do it, and I will happily take a brilliant, graceful, moving program like Johnny's over Evan's technically sound to-do-list and whatever that was that Plushenko skated tonight.
ETA: I edited my original post to be more clear in my thoughts on Evan, LOL!
While I'm glad Plushenko did not win, I would have loved to see how Takahashi would've done if he'd skated clean. If he goes through with his intent to retire from amateur competition (which may not be for a while yet; as far as I know he's only said he'll not compete in Sochi), I predict a great future ahead for him in the professional realm.
I was happy for Evan, I've been rooting for him for awhile, but I really thought that Johnny just didn't get a fair score! There were SO many other skaters who did so much worse.

I think some might argue after tonight's performance that Plushenko is all talk!
