More Thursday Night viewing ...

Oct 19, 2008 00:27

So I finally got around to watching more of my Thursday shows (I still have Eleventh Hour -- yes, I watch that too. Rufus Sewell is still pretty and I like Marley Shelton. Oh, I'm two behind on My Name is Earl now! Eeek, how did that happen? I do still enjoy the show).

Anyhoo, ( thoughts on 'Life on Mars' ... )

the office, tv, tanya fischer, doctor/rose, life on mars

I think it's sort of non-canon but often accepted that BBC Sam Tyler is like a cousin of Pete's or something (how this explains his resemblance to the Master provides opportunity for crazy random speculation). I hadn't heard that story about how he got the name but that is cute.

I don't know what they'll do in the US version but in the BBC one Maya wasn't really that big a character. She was in the pilot, mentioned a couple times through the show, there was an episode involving her mother (in which I spent a fair amount of time being scared Sam was going to turn out to be her father, but really it was just about him letting her go in the end).

I'm kind of antsy for Pam to get back to the office. Sure in story I'm glad she gets to go off and pursue her dream but watching it I miss her being with the rest of the cast (mostly Jim). And the more crazy Jan gets the more I don't want her on the show any more, but that may just be me.

Erm, okay. But I want him to Rose and the Doctor's son? Please? Come on, crack abounds. It can work. In my mind.

Yeah, I've gotten that impression from eolivet, alas, the way they keep pushing Lisa Bonet in the credits and showing the sweet, lovey-dovey mentions/scenes, etc. in both episodes so far, I'm pretty sure that's going to turn out differently.

LOL, try about 30 of them, popping up overnight. :)

Of course, I wouldn't expect anything less.

And just, yes, to the rest of your post. It was the deft touch and perfect balance that they managed to capture that made this episode (and many of them) so good. When it goes to far into sap or too far into depression, it doesn't work (and, fortunately, happens rarely on this show), but when you get that right balance, it's just perfect. As tonight's episode was. And add those little nuances, that realism, it just makes the viewer love these characters more.

I haven't really liked the past two episodes of The Office that much (probably because there hasn't been much Dwangela stuff), but I have to admit that Michael and Holly are so dorkily cute. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with them, and I hope that he doesn't go back to Jan. Because yeah, she's crazy. And even Michael doesn't deserve that.

Oh, hmm, I'm not the biggest Dwangela fan. I don't dislike them, but I don't really care for them so that hasn't been a factor for me. I'm sorry you haven't enjoyed the past two episodes. :( I've really done so. But hey! With the wedding coming up and stuff, maybe you'll get a lot of Dwangela in November sweeps.

I hope Michael and Holly work it out (and I was once a Michael/Jan fan), she is just perfect for him! :)

I love that story about how Sam Tyler was "named." His original last name was "Williams," I believe (which came up in the last ep of the original series ;p )

it came out that Sam's mother's name is Rose

I heard that!!! I don't even think we found out her name in the original, so either that was 1) cut from the original script, or 2) specifically named here as a shout-out to the fans of the original who knew the story. :p

But you know who does spark with O'Mara? Tanya Fischer, the actress who plays Windy

Yessssss. :D I'm glad someone else agrees with me. :) I hope we'll at least see more of her in the future. :)

Oh, I'm sure it was a little gimme for the fans who know the story. Hee!!

Sadly, I checked imdb and didn't see Tanya Fischer's name in any future episodes so far. ::sniff sniff:: I LOVED that final scene.
