“Doctor Baltar. A word.” An order, not a request.

“Admiral, you do realise that you don't reign military authority over the civilian populace in this courtroom? Surely your father and son wouldn't tolerate this violation of court procedures.” But Baltar follows Adama into the small room off the courtroom. Knows that his words are no match for the admiral's contained fury.

“Frak court procedures. This whole trial's a farce. If it weren't for the President, you would've looked outside-in through an airlock the moment you dared setting foot on my ship again.”

“Is this a threat, Admiral?”

“It's the truth.”

“I'm sure it is. But this isn't about me or the trial, is it.” Not even a question. “It's about her. It has been about her ever since she stepped up to bear testimony.”

“Cut the crap and the psychological bullshitting, doctor. I wanna know what they did to her on New Caprica.”

Momentarily, Baltar is surprised. Then he realizes the power he suddenly holds over Adama. “Do you know what Laura Roslin looks like without her glasses, Admiral?”

Adama does, but knows Baltar isn't fishing for intimate details about the effects a glass-less Laura Roslin has on him when lying in his rack, or when she took them off to stare down his son and the whole courtroom, confronting everyone with her cancer. When she dared the living rest of humanity to stand up against her. And nobody did.

“Where are you going with this, doctor?”

“Helpless. In that prison cell, when I handed her back her glasses, Laura Roslin looked helpless. The way you left her.”

Baltar expects the impact of Adama's fist to his guts and hardly flinches. Knows that his own blow scarred the admiral much deeper. Knows that he might just have re-gained his freedom.
