Great points on "Once more with feeling". One of the strengths of that episode was, to my mind, the way that it managed to work as both a straight episode and as a device to advance the series as a whole. You can express a lot more through song than through spoken word, so subtext could become text (thanks, Giles) smoothly, without loads of cumbersome exposition. Also, of course, Spike's song was outstanding. "Whisper in a dead man's ear" and "Stop visiting my grave" as literal expressions, not hyperbole! Fabulous.
