Oh my god, I love you. Also, thanks to you, I've been watching Lady GaGa videos while texting Daria about Lee's mom reading Proust after her son becomes a mini Marcel scholar. This is relevant because "disco stick" is her jam, man.
And this post was made for you to agree/disagree with.
That post looks really great. The only problem is I've only seen The Young Victoria and Inglourious Basterds, so I can't really compare. (I don't think Shosanna's red dress was that good, tbh.)
But: Prince Albert's brother's plaid pants >>> everything.
That post really makes me want to see Bright Star. I've liked Abbie Cornish since Somersault, but the costumes there kind of sell me on the film.
I agree about Shosanna's dress. I much prefer her hardy, working uniform during the restaurant scene. I think Franchesca's outfit during that bit, Aldo's sweater vest at the vet's, everything of Bridget's, and Aldo and Smitty's costumes during the last chapter are the best of the film though. The costume design is amazing throughout, and there are little costume/production design decisions that I'm amazed by, like the star of David-esque leaf on Wicki's coat and Donny's scuffed boots.
I might see Bright Star if I can convince myself that Ben Wishaw is not Alec D'Urbervilles.
After thinking about it for a little, I was going to challenge IB for costume design's top spot because I'm not sure how much costuming is required when 40% of the costumes are uniforms, but your post made me reconsider. Frankly, I'm not sure it's fair to put period and non-period films in the same category for costumes--they're viewed so differently. Period pieces have costumes; modern-day films have clothes.
I'll see if I can find a cap of that scene. Maybe do a mini-picspam.
Also, thanks to our QT night I found his episode of Alias on youtube.

Lady Gaga is like crack, I'm pretty sure.

I need to see a picture of said pants now.
