I was just inspired to spin this. Can't say I'm too happy with it, though I do like the first and last stanzas. It applies to a whole slew of things that I haven't addressed before. To whoever reads this, you'll know if it's directed at you.
*Credits to Pris for helping with the second stanza.
Watching Rainbows
We used to sit together by the hillside
watching rainbows,
feeling the rain-soaked grass wet our clothes.
Companionable silence, songbirds tentatively
breaking into melodies
well into the evening. The clouds
were a beautiful picture, I used to say,
and you agreed every time.
We headed into the woods at
some point. There were forks in the paths. One in
particular led
deeper into the forest. The other,
back to the hillside.
You took the left, and I, the right.
A wordless separation.
No
tears streaked my cheeks, no
acid words lingered in the air.
Now and then I watch the rainbows
alone, glancing back towards the woods, wondering,
wondering what it would be like
if you were here with me once more.
