and now for the other side

Then slowly she lifted her head and looked at Matilda. She saw the child white in the face, as white as paper, trembling all over, the eyes glazed, staring straight ahead and seeing nothing. The whole face was transfigured, the eyes round and bright and she was sitting there speechless, quite beautiful in a blaze of silence.--- p175 ( Read more... )

The only Amanda Quick I enjoyed was 'Seduction'. That may just have been because it was the first of hers I'd read.

I found that the same things annoyed me about all of them. Her protagonists, despite having different interests and personalities were all a little too alike. And somehow the hero/heroine imbalance of power - common in a Regency romance - annoys me in her books. The heroines are a little too naive and ingenuous, the heroes too powerful and experienced. IT's hard to put my finger on. It probably just comes down to her writing - especially her dialogue. I'd be interested to hear what you think. There are a few cool things in Seduction, though.

Hmmmmmm. Verrah intriguing points ... I don't think I actually got Seduction. I got Scandal, Mystique and Dangerous, all recced to me by Margaret at Intrigue. Yep, I definitely will keep going with them so I can report back to you.

Oh, btw, did you see the Dear Author review of Waiting In Vain by Charlotte Stein? I bought the novella and it did NOT disappoint. I think I've found a new favourite to add to the list. :D

Check your email soonish. ;p

I also love that quote, and pretty much everything about the book. I love (to hate) Trunchbull - such a great villain!

Have I given you back your copy of Frederica, by the way? *feels guilty*

Me too, omg!! And her reaction to the boy with the chocolate cake ... omg, every bit of that scene is just priceless. Me, I always forget just how vile Matilda's parents are ... and hell, I ALWAYS forget she has a brother. *lol*

You know, I don't think you have ... :p One day, I think I shall have to come over to your place and sift through all your books just to see what's mine. Is a good thing I adore you so much, Ms Coraline!
