Mmmm, I find Nick Cave's music to be highly delicious, especially as of late. Leonard Cohen also is very very close to my heart, but you are absolutely right about Hallelujah. I've heard at least 6 or 7 covers of that song, and nobody does it like Jeff Buckley or even comes close (and this coming from a die hard Rufus devotee). Cohen's version has some weird synth-type stuff in it that makes it sound significantly less emotional.

Ahhhh, I was going to ask you what Nick Cave you like ... when you say as of late, which ones and why? *curious*

YES! Thank you for ratifying my totally subjective love of Jeff's Hallelujah ... hee.

I love The Boatman's Call as far as albums go. I don't know why I've been so into him lately, but my favorite song is probably "Into My Arms."

Cos, well, I picked the latest copy of Meanjin yesterday. Normally I stay well away just because I associate it with bad creative writing assignment memories from university. I remember we had to investigate markets for our stories each week and oh yes I remember only too clearly picking up my first copy of Meanjin and quietly having a heart attack at the supreme wankery and highminded obtuse wtf-are-they-going-on-about-edness of the writing. Holyfuck. *palpitates*

WAHAHA! You too? *wipes tears* So true.

*sigh* I wish I owned a copy of Sexual Personae. Never realised until the past week or so just how deeply I internalised the concepts of that book.I have a copy you can borrow - although for some reason I'm not sure if it's the original or an abridged version; I'll have to check. I don't know why I think that. It's a second hand copy I got from Gleebooks ages ago... Ah Camille ( ... )

*falls over laughing* Oh good, I don't feel quite so ninny-ish now. You should totally pick up the latest copy though or borrow mine. I think you'd really like it ... *nod nod nod* .. totally makes me appreciate our Aussie music all the more.

I would love to borrow your Camille, abridged or unabridged. *pants pants pants* You know that niggling sense of "I remember that book but I need to refamiliarise myself, I need I need!" ... totally got that. Urgh, knew I should have bought it.

And oh yes, same for Ass Saw The Angel when you're happy to part with it, please please? It's amazing how he manages to be both attractive and repulsive in the same instant, terrifying and alluring. How very Dionysian mindfucky and no, I wouldn't expect anything less from him.

as if i don't already have enough books of yours...

*lol* I kept seeing The Best Of at every store for ridiculously cheap prices but because it had The Carny on it and I can still remember your post about being scared gormless by it, I kept ( ... )

I'll get the books out on the weekend for you - just remind me. What other books have mine have you got? I thought you gave most of em back... *curious* nevermind, obviously I'm not missing them so take your time.

Cos I was listening to the album today and, y'know, I kinda always knew he was kinda satanic in his appeal but bugger me if he doesn't sing most of this album just like a Satanic evangelist!

Yeah, there's so much biblical stuff in his work. Actually, I think he's studied the bible or something like that. The lyrics of Red Right Hand really capture that kind of evangelical/satanic theme too.

Exactly. Tis the lure of Cave.
