8. Ebola

Vitamin C experts such as Dr. Robert Cathcart, III, MD and Dr. Thomas E Levy, MD, JD have published their ideas for treating the Ebola virus with high dosages of Vitamin C. They have noted that the symptoms of the Ebola virus are similar to a very rapid and powerful scurvy (i.e. a super-vitamin C defiency). Even if this isn't the primary action of the virus, the effect is the same because any powerful viral infection will deplete ascorbate tissues stores per Dr. Cathcart's Titrating Vitamin C to Bowel Tolerance finding. The sicker a person is, the more vitamin C they can tolerate without diarrhea.

It may very well be that large Bowel Tolerance dosages of vitamin C against Ebola are too little too late. Instead, if you, like most people, don't have ready access to intravenous vitamin C, we recommend the even higher Russel Jaffe, PhD, Vitamin C Calibration/Cleanse protocol. In case of suspected Ebola we recommend the following Jaffe protocol.

Jaffe Cleanse:

Setup: Determine the largest single dosage that will not cause diarrhea. (This step must be done ahead of time, i.e. right now, if you are not a regular vitamin C "mega" doser.) The one-time dosage is usually 4 to 12 grams.

Cleanse: Take the one-time maximum dosage every 15 minutes until the watery discharge which usually occurs around the two hour mark.

Note: When you are well, you can use Dr. Jaffe's Calibration procedure to help you estimate how much vitamin C you should be taking daily. The optimal daily amount is usually put at 75% of your two-hour calibration.

In summary, people taking 10+g vitamin C orally should be protected from Ebola. Those that get the disease should be cured quickly with IVC 50g/day for at least 3 days. Ebola depletes your vitamin C causing acute scurvy which kills you. IVC is the only form of vitamin C that, in addition to curing the scurvy, can get blood levels high enough where it acts as a direct viracide by inactivating viral RNA.

Commentary by Steve Hickey PhD, Hilary Roberts PhD, and Damien Downing MBBS, MSB.
"Clinical reports suggest that taking vitamin C almost to bowel tolerance every day (in divided doses) will help to protect you against all viruses. Reports by independent physicians have been consistent for decades. However, the doctors also stipulated most emphatically that the dose and the way you take it must be right - or it will not work. There is no direct placebo controlled "evidence" that massive doses of vitamin C will work on Ebola, and nobody would volunteer to take part in that study. But massive doses are reported to have helped against every virus it has been pitched against. This includes Polio, Dengue and AIDS, and it even makes vaccination work better. In the 1980s when no other treatment was available it was reported that full blown AIDS could be reversed and the patient brought back to reasonable health.[i,ii]"

“I have not found any virus for which vitamin C does not exert a virucidal effect, as long as enough vitamin C reaches the virus, such as in any acute infection.” According to Dr Levy “the virus so rapidly and totally metabolises and consumes all available vitamin C in the bodies of victims that an advanced stage of scurvy is produced after only a few days.” He proposed that the haemorrhagic fever, inducing internal bleeding, which is the primary cause of death in Ebola, is remarkably similar to scurvy."

"There are many potential reasons reason why high dose vitamin C makes a lot of sense in the treatment of Ebola. Viral infection is known to generate oxidative stress, which could be attenuated by vitamin C. Also, vitamin C has been shown to inhibit viral replication in vitro. And we know that in vitro very high doses of vitamin C generate hydrogen peroxide which has antimicrobial actions, but you would probably need intravenous vitamin C, or at least extremely high oral intake, to induce this effect."

"My advice, whenever there is a virus of any kind going around, is to keep your daily vitamin C level up. I take 2 grams a day in divided doses, and 1 gram every one or two hours if I get the first signs of a viral infection (e.g. blocked nose, itchy throat and headache). In the case of Ebola I would recommend immediate intravenous vitamin C."

"Note that the 2005 epidemic in Angola which was first referred to as an Ebola like virus has now been called the Marburg Virus. It does not make a difference from the point of view of treatment with massive doses of intravenous sodium ascorbate. Both diseases kill by way of free radicals which can be neutralized by massive doses of sodium ascorbate intravenously.

It does not take a genius to figure out that with the increased bowel tolerance to oral ascorbic acid somewhat proportional to the toxicity of the disease that the most serious infectious diseases would rapidly exhaust all the bodies vitamin C, acute induced scurvy, and cause bleeding all over the body and finally free radical deaths.

My experience with giving massive doses of ascorbic acid orally to over 30,000 patients and with giving intravenous sodium ascorbate to over 2,000 patients would indicate that with Ebola and other viral hemorrhagic fever diseases that intravenous sodium ascorbate should be used in doses beginning with at least 180 grams per 24 hours. If the fever is not controlled or the symptoms are not reduced, the dosage and the rate of administration should be increased until they are controlled.

When the Ebola or any other hemorrhagic disease has remitted to the point where intravenous sodium ascorbate is no longer necessary, bowel tolerance doses should be given orally until there is completer recovery. When bowel tolerance doses of ascorbic acid are used orally be sure to keep the patient well hydrated. Do not under any circumstances let the patient become dehydrated when large doses of ascorbic acid are being administered orally.

Because there is a breakdown of the blood vessels, it might be helpful to give a couple of grams of bioflavonoids and a multiple vitamin every day. Oh! but I forgot, these are not patentable so not profitable to the drug industry."

9. Where to Buy:

http://www.vitamincfoundation.org/powder.shtml - Vitamin C is European Quali-c® as L-ascorbic-acid Fine powder (The Vitamin C in all our products is DSM Quali-C manufactured in Europe to the highest standards. )
Iherb.com - you can buy less expensive forms (and probably less pure) here.

(I don't have any financial ties with any of these websites. I am sure you can find other sources.)
