Leaving class today, it occurred to me that the "Yield For Pedestrians" sign on Patterson is one of the dumbest street signs I've ever seen in my life.
Of COURSE you yield for pedestrians. Who the hell's ever seen a sign that says "Go on, hit the pedestrians"?

Those signs aren't meant as a positive instruction, like "Stop," but rather as advisory warnings for inattentive/stupid drivers, like "Merge right." The main road down the middle of UVA has SIX Yield for Pedestrians signs, after several pedestrians were hit while crossing.
