A Tree of Eden
I know the dreams you hold for me,
in your old and wisened branches,
but do I dare partake of thee
or burn you with my matches?
Your first attempt left quite a rift
for better or for worse.
But do I dare accept your gift,
or shun you as a curse?
Your apple brightly shines at me
a knowing gleam reflects
and I know I can't resist it's sheen
or the knowledge it protects.
Mother tree, Mother tree,
Why must I take this truth?
I'd rather I had never known,
and had never lost my youth.
