the problem with literary types is the intense focus on authorial intent, indeed, the complete meaning and result of the piece is the utmost importance; the message as it is being transmitted, the complicated idea being communicated, all that is what takes supreme importance. Interesting post. I mostly agree but I wouldn't say that science inherently can't explain meaning, but rather it isn't ready to. Science is understanding with much higher standards and, consequently, much higher detail. This complexity multiplies the inherent complexity of whatever we are trying to examine. Thus, a full description of meaning on a scientific level is currently infeasible, but this is because of the overwhelming complexity of such an analysis, not some kind of deficiency in the scientific process. Over time, the range of knowledge attained by scientific methods has repeatedly expanded into areas once thought unreachable by science. This trend has exploded alongside the rapid development of information-processing technology. Science is gradually replacing or confirming ideas that we once 'knew' were right ( ... )
