I finally ordered Fahrenheit 451 and We (by Yevgeny Zamyatin) today 'cause I am a sucker for all things Huxley-esque. And are written well, duh. I once heard that We is believed to be the inspiration of Orwell, am I right?

Stephen Fry = love. I was watching his documentary HIV and Me yesterday and once again I realized how much I am in awe of ( Read more... )

Yeah, too bad he is. I would've wanted to marry him otherwise. ;)

Eeeh, I must love it then! I've been hearing so many good things about Fahrenheit 451. Can't just pass up such a classic, can I? Here in Belgium it's pretty unknown, though (we are, undoubtedly, an underdevoloped country concerning literature ;)).

This is what amazon.co.uk says about We: In a glass-enclosed city of absolute straight lines, nameless numbers, survivors of a devastating war, live out lives devoid of passion and creativity. Until D-503, a mathematician who dreams in numbers, makes a discovery: he has an individual soul.

I have no idea if it's anywhere near as good as Huxley or Orwell, but they say this novel inspired the latter to write 1984. So. :D

I don't think Fahrenheit 451 is that well-known in Finland, either. It's the kind of book that comes up every once in a while in Literature classes, but no one ever seems to have read it. It's the only sci-fish book my librarian mother has ever enjoyed and she recommended it to me. It's terribly beautifully written (it's been several years since I read it and I can still recall the mentions of the burning, dove-winged books from the beginning) and quite a lovely dystopia overall.

Oh, We sounds nice. Hope it's good, though it could also be somewhat interesting if it was bad or mediocre, thinking of what it has inspired.

Hey, dude. Ok, so this is completely OT, but I remembered you mentioning it in one of your previous posts that you wanted to watch Journeyman, and won't be able to. Well, you can watch it HERE, online. Just check back weekly for updates of new episodes. So far, only the pilot has been uploaded. I've seen up to episode two, which aired this past Monday, and so far so good. :) I'm really liking the show. Kevin McKidd LOVE! ♥
