It feels a lot like realizing too late that you didn't take a deep enough breath before you dove off the diving board.

Very true. (I'm a pansy so) I would always pencil dive off the board, so I'd just crash to the bottom.

It's the vain hope that there really is someone enjoying this moment, rather than all the bad feelings just sort of decaying into space.
