Took some extra photos of my boy outside of the AnimeLA meetup (where the light was better--although, when the sun came out it completely washed my poor BW-skinned boy out!).
I like this look for him. But I know what you mean about forcing dolls into things they aren't into. I do that and it's like, "Meh." He looks VERY cute and I LOVE that wig.
Well, I think he looks cute, although I wasn't quite sure if the outfit would work on him or not...
My dolls aren't allowed to have a single style or personality, poor things. I'll torture them by putting them in odd outfits at the drop of a hat! ^___^
I think a number of owners do that. At least I haven't stuck him in a bunny suit (yet).
It's a really good look for him. Your boy is just mad sexy...
I should screw up my courage and take Steve's BW Elf Lishe out for a shoot, I just get sort of antsy about even indirect sunlight on the white skinned ones.
I know, I worry about light, but I think it's OK unless you've got them baking in strong sunlight for hours. I've had all my BW dolls outdoors for hours and they aren't yellow. My BW Lishe head got very slightly yellow--but I think it was mostly the MSC, not the resin! (need to re-do that faceup someday, anyway) But I only notice the difference when comparing it to my heads that have been wrapped up for the past 4 years... And it's not a huge difference at all.
That's a comfort, thanks! I was just checking Ann, and the insides of her joints are still the same as her skin, but she's a 2006. We've got so many WS dolls now I'm just going to have to start going for it since everyone could use a photoshoot and we want to do some stories. All of them comedies, I'm afraid...hell, even the Pukis (imps) are BW!
Steve says the MSC yellowing means it's working correctly; it's yellowing from the UV it's taking in. So it makes sense that you'd have to replace it once in a while if they get some sun. That's why I can't see paying a fortune for a face up. I'd cry to have to replace it.
I think the white skin isn't necessarily bad about yellowing. My Elf El and Elf Lishe are from '04 and '05 and seem pretty stable so far. (I've got a BW Elf Yder, a Juri '05 head in bw and my various vampire and dreaming heads... lots of white skin over here!--I like the more unusual skin tones!)
The ones I worry about are my French Resin blue and grey/purple bambicrony elves... They are notoriously bad about yellowing because of the french resin. So far they haven't changed drastically, not like some people have reported, but who knows what'll happen?
I think you'll be fine since they aren't french resin.
People were doing tests on sun damage to resin and most had to leave the pieces out in direct sun for days before the color started to change...
Heheh. But it's just so fun!!! (to torture poor dolls!)
I think I've been quite restrained with my dolls so far. No cross-dressing, no furry bunny suits, no underwear shots... But it's probably only a matter of time! ^____^
great set of photos, april! i see some really great expressions here. this doll is pretty much a classic bjd to me, one of the definitive dolls that put bjd's on the map. every time I see one, it becomes more apparent how special the els are ^_^ and i agree with you that the shorter SD boys looks really good wearing hot pants and short shorts, especially with high boots ^_^
The dignity of my poor Elf boy is totally at risk, but it makes me smile!
Poor old boy...! I'm glad people still like looking at him, though. ^___^
Aside from Volks, the CP Els were the the dolls that I first saw that got me interested in BJDs. (Volks weren't my first because they were such a pain to actually get ahold of, and I'm kinda lazy that way. CPs I could order through Liria... although LUTs was just starting up then, too, making it easy either way.)
