So it's in the title, and I still didn't figure it out until Sam said it. But damn. Damn, that is good fic.

I think the worst part is that if Dean's ghost is still wandering around, that probably means his body was never found. Sam lying awake at night consumed by guilt and all these horrible possibilities of ways Dean could have died, and the not-knowing is driving him crazy. And then he says "It's gonna be okay," and *heartbreak.*

Thanks so much! Yeah, I mean, that's it, isn't it? Remains still hanging around, or unfinished business like Molly from Roadkill. It's just kind of awful for all of them. I mean, for Sam, obviously, and for Jess, living a life that so clearly wasn't what she'd planned, and Dean. I mean, being dead and all, yes, but also, considering his feelings about spirits, especially pre-season one? It's kind of like a nightmare come true for him, and I wonder if Sam isn't unintentionally doing him a kindness by not telling him. Of course, Dean would want to be put down, obviously. Well, rational, still-alive Dean would, anyway, and oh look, I'm off on a wild tangent. What I really mean to say is thank you, and I'm really glad you liked this!

Having inflicted my own awful on the Winchesters, I just figure what goes around comes around. :) This Dean-as-ghost story is different from others I've read -- it really packs a punch! That should stand as my actual review, now that I've had a few minutes to get my bearings back. *g*
