Because smilla02 is more awesome that just about anybody, ever, she REMIXED my last last drabble into something completely amazing! You can find her Sam POV companion piece here: The Inevitable Workings of Natural Law. Team Dean, meanwhile, is sticking with the apocalypse, but today, we're on the other side of it! *g*

Then:

Now:

Don’t Look Back [Gen, PG, 100 words]

Don’t Look Back

Sam rides out the silence filleting mica on a knife’s edge, aligning the pieces into a broken tangram, and Dean watches the spaces between, where blacktop shows through like veins on the wing of a fly, purposeful and insistent.

“You have to promise me,” Sam says eventually, holding the knife out.

Dean nods, makes the promise now as easily as he’ll break it later, and grabs Ruby’s knife, still warm with Sam’s body heat.

Something’s burning five miles down the road; crimson smoke muddies the sky. Dean pushes away from where he’s leaning on the car. They’re walking from here.
