I think USC's program is pretty good - I looked it into myself at one point and remember being really intrigued by where the alums went off to (however this was before 2008 and the economy crashing). I also looked at Penn's program in comm. and ended up emailing a few people from there and the one big piece of advice was to make sure the research people were doing interested you. The woman ended up teaching at UTAustin which also has a really great communications school.
