Should I retake the GREs?

Hi all, long time lurker first time poster with an unsurprising question. I took the GREs on Friday and while I won't receive my official score report until November(!) according to the score range they gave at the end of the test I did pretty well on the verbal (750-800 range) but atrociously on the math (490-590 range). Seriously, they won't give a damn about your math score, so don't retake it. Just a waste of time better spent on the rest of your app and $200 bucks.

Don't bother. Your verbal is amazing and your combined score should be above any cutoff.

I concur with the others; the score that matters for lit programs is solid, and your 1350 or so combined score should be over any university cut-offs. You're good.

You may need a higher math score for Philosophy programs but I don't think it matters much for lit programs. If the latter is your primary interest, then don't bother retaking it.

Philosophy it might make a difference, but literature it absolutely won't, and a retake chances lowering your verbal score. I wouldn't retake.
