Waitlisted for top-choice - can I change it?

Feb 25, 2011 11:50

Hi all!
This community has been so helpful to me in the past, so I was wondering if any of you could shed some light on my issue.

First some background: I'm applying for a PhD in English. I already have a BA in English and studying towards an MA in Creative Writing and English.

Life is funny )

I'm in the English grad track myself... smyleykyley March 17 2011, 02:14:18 UTC
I think it's the *creative writing* focus of your current degree that is giving this program pause. Creative writing and Literary Crit (as you know) are really different, and maybe they are concerned that you don't have the theory, etc background?

Wait list, I think, should not be a wait-and-see. If this is your first program, LET THEM KNOW! If you are close, see if you can visit the campus and meet with them. If you're far away, see if you can have some email/phone conversations. My best friend was wait listed to a PhD program, went and had a few meetings on campus, and BAM, she got accepted within two weeks.

Good luck.
