Two Questions

First question: My earliest deadline (for a uni that doesn't require the GRE, whew!) is on Dec. 1. However, my transcript won't make it and some of my recommendations aren't gonna make it either. I want to defer application but my mom said I should first write the school requesting for an extension ( Read more... )

In my personal experience, schools are pretty lenient about pieces of the application (such as GRE scores, transcripts, etc.) that arrive a little late. Besides, no one is going to be reviewing applications until after winter break anyway. If you're panicking about it though, you can of course contact the director of the program and see what s/he says.

Good luck,
Ray

It's not entirely true. I had several schools contact me about interviews the very first week of January.

Well, I guess it depends on program or area of study... but it seems as though a lot of programs are okay with certain parts of the application arriving late (namely official transcripts or GRE scores arriving late), as there's usually a place on the application itself to indicate your GPA and your GRE score. Perhaps they are not so lenient with SOPs or LORs though...

To be on the safe side though, I would encourage the OP to contact someone in the program.

I hope you're right. I'll contact the admissions officer and ask

It generally takes ETS about 2 weeks to send out scores. Once they have scored everything you can also check online and see your score on there as well.

It's only Nov. 22nd. How do you know your transcript won't make it?

Most programs are flexible about LORs. Not all - I'll be honest. But the overwhelming majority are flexible about LORs, because they know that shit happens.

I checked with my registrar and they said it could take about 2 weeks for the transcript to be sent. It normally takes them a week to recopy transcripts but they told me there's a lot of requests now from the October graduates that they're busy

Can you pay extra to have them express ship it? Or just pick it up in person express ship the sealed envelope yourself?

I just checked with the school I'm applying to and it's okay to send the transcripts in myself. So I'll pick up my transcripts and just express them myself
