It's been really helpful lurking and reading others' SoPs on here, and I finally have a rough draft I'm relatively happy with. (I have about four or five false starts saved on my computer, it was kind of ridiculous.) If any of you have the time to read a science-y SoP for molecular biology PhD programs I'd very much appreciate it :D

That's true about the religion stuff. My friends all know I'm a total atheist who just happens to be fascinated by religion, but I imagine it doesn't come off that way. My transcript has like, 8 religion courses on there, so now I'm wondering if I should address it somehow just to say that I'm not a religious whackjob, especially since I actually am interested in stem cell research.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about the opening and closing bits either. I originally had another few sentences in my opening and a bit of an off-topic ramble about stem cells and religion, neither seemed to add much, so I took them out. Most of the bio sample SoPs I could find online opened up with grandiose statements about WHAT IS LIFE!?!! and closed similarly to mine.
