I'm filling out my application online and it's asking for a Thesis Summary and Applicant Statement.  My SoP already discusses these things so what are they looking for here ( Read more... )

Thesis Summary:

Did you write/are you writing an undergraduate thesis? Describe it here. (Or, if you're applying from MA to PhD, describe your MA thesis). N.B. Be sure to note who advised it!

Applicant Summary:

If your SOP does cover all of this off, practice the ancient Chinese art of Cut and Paste (feel free to remove any information that might be deemed superfluous to the question).

Thanks. Note: applying from BA to MA.

I never wrote an undergrad thesis, but I did do research after graduating that my MA thesis will expand on. Should I mention this or leave this area blank?

And thank you for explaining the Applicant Summary. I'm so glad we've adopted "the ancient Chinese art of Cut and Paste."

Hmmm, that's a tricky one. What they're asking is whether you've ever engaged in the process of writing a thesis... If your research project resembled that process then I think it's relevant and you should describe it. If not, you might want to go with N/A.

That's a good idea. Thanks.
