 Hey all,

Apparently I'm applying for an Anthropology MA! As my deadline is coming up, I'd really, really appreciate any feedback anyone could give me on my statement of intent. It's only supposed to be a page long so I know I have to cut it down, but I'm still working on that. Thanks in advance!

Lit suggestion - check out "Don't hate the player, hate the game" by Lisa Nakamura. (from Critical Studies in Media Communication, June 2009)

Feedback - this is really crowded and verbose, and says only a tiny little bit about what you intend to do. Frankly, I'd cut out the entire second and third paragraphs and focus on one or two signifying pieces of literature instead of a full brain dump on the subject. Also, rethink the part about revisiting your undergrad research. That may be so, but you don't want to give the impression you're just going to be extending your undergrad years.

This reads like a disorganized, verbose research proposal, not as a Statement of Intent. What do you intend to study? Why? What university and department resources will you drawn in to study this? With whom in the department will you work?
