i wouldnt say you came to the US because of getting married, i know that only saves you a few words but its not really relevant. I would just say After moving to the US, I began volunteering....

In the final clinical exam that stood between me and the title of pediatrician During my final clinical exam in medical school*, I was asked to present a child with global developmental delay. When "John" (name changed) came to our hospital from rural Karanataka, he was biologically five years old, but presented with the clinical development of a six to nine month old. He was unable to walk, his speech was restricted to mono-syllables and he did not even recognize his mother. To my great surprise, his parents truly believed that their son would “outgrow” his disabilities.Academically, that case discussion went really well for me as it contributed to me being awarded the best outgoing student from our residency program. We diagnosed John with Cerebral Palsy and referred him to Chethana, one of the few not-for-profit schools for special needs children in southern India. After the exam as I awaited my results, I volunteered at Chethana to follow-up on how John was doing ( ... )
