so I'm trying to bring down a 1,000 word statement of purpose that I submitted to other schools into a 500 word max sop for SUNY Binghamton

A page is about 250 words double spaced... I think it's saying no more than 500 words, but it doesn't have to be that long-- a page would do. (More than likely whomever wrote that doesn't want to read a million long statements...heh).

agreed - one page is OK, but don't go over 500 words
