Calculating Undergrad GPA/Study Abroad

Oct 30, 2009 21:05

Hi,

Does anyone know whether we are supposed to include our grades earned while studying abroad when calculating our undergraduate GPAs?  My undergraduate instituion does not include them in its GPA calculation, but it lists the grades under transfer credits on my transcript.

Thanks!

i don't think so. i think there will be a section on the application that will ask about all the institutions you've attended, but i'm fairly sure if your school does not include your study abroad credits in your gpa, don't count them.

You might want to call and ask the school directly. I've seen instructions for calculating undergrad GPA that said you must specifically include every grades for every ungrad class taken, and explained how to calculate them. I've also seen online forms that specifically request undergrad GPA only from your degree-granting institution. (I found this particularly relevant because I took classes at a bunch of different schools, and my undergrad institution did not add them to my overall GPA.)

So I would recommended calling or asking each department/grad school directly, just to make sure.

If the grades are on your undergrad university transcript, I would include them in your GPA calculation.
