How do I decide on a biology grad school program?

My name is Kelly and I am new to this community.  I am very interested in going to grad school next fall for biology, but only after recently reading "Getting What You Came For" did I realize how behind I am!  (He suggests researching and contacting potential advisors a year and a half before APPLYING... I'm a biology major and I love biology too. Based on what you've written I would advise you to research a bit more about what your real interests are. As you well said it, biology has the wonderful ability to be very generalized and to become really specialized so playing around that is where the mastery lies ( ... )

You may still be able to apply this year if you look at schools with rolling admissions or late deadlines. Also you'll probably have a better shot at M.S. programs than Ph.D. ones (some Ph.D. programs require applicants already have a M.S.) You can also wait a year so that you've got a better idea what you want to do ( ... )

I was a biology major, and I want to get a PhD, but I feel like I'm lacking in the chem. department enough to not be competitive (but I'm going to try anyway). I'm going to apply for doctoral programs after I take the gre (hopefully very soon), and after I start doing cancer research in Jan. I have a thesis under my belt, but the one school I really want to get into only accepts students with research exp. I have that because of my thesis, but I feel like I need more..or to be in the process of doing more ( ... )
