Unless you know their schedule well, I'd actually suggest just emailing them. People do this all the time, and you don't need to feel weird doing it.

I just asked the other day and I was SO scared but it went very well!!

I e-mailed them and basically told them I am applying for grad school and I'd like to set up a meeting with them so we can talk about it.

They sent me the times that were good for them and I showed up.

I had no idea how to actually ask, but in the end I decided it was best to be straight to the point. I came in,asked how they were doing and then said "the primary purpose of my visit today is to see if you would be willing to write a strong letter of recommendation for me.."

Happily, they agreed, I handed them a packet of pertinent info, we chatted a bit, and I was done!

I survived and you will too!! Best of luck!

I just met with 2 of my recommendation writers and did not provide envelopes. Are we're supposed to provide stamps and envelopes? It's not too late for me to drop them off, so if anyone has any idea about that, please let me know. Thanks!

Yes, from what I understand, it's generally recommended that you provide stamps and envelopes (you could also give them the envelope, then pick it up from them later, after they've sealed it, and mail it for them). It's probably a good idea to stop by and drop the materials off to make things as convenient as possible for them.
