Paleoanthropology MA abroad

Jul 06, 2009 10:18

I keep failing the GRE!! 540 v, 500 Q are my scores for the second time around. Ugh.

Can I go to the UK or Canada, get an MA (I like a few programs abroad) and come back to the US for a PhD program and skip the GRE altogether? Or will the PhD programs make me take it even with an MA? :(

Help please!!

i'm not sure i would call that failing? a 1200 is considered about average...a 1040 i dont think is abysmal..

what are you looking to get into?

I want to apply to PhD programs in paleoanthropology this fall. I think I have a strong overall record, except this stupid test. I'm so afraid it's going to keep me out of graduate school.

In looking at philosophy PhD requirements, I haven't seen any mention of an MA meaning you can skip the GRE. Maybe it happens unofficially, or in some other programs.

Were you accepted to MA or PhD programs?? Either way, that is pretty encouraging :)

I did an MA in the UK and my US PhD program still wanted my GRE scores. My UK MA did help though.

I just did my first practice GRE about a half hour ago. I got a worse score... a MUCH worse score.

My goal score is to get above a 1000. No lie. So that is not failing.

It is one of five factors. I think you'll be fine.

Well that was my goal too, but now I'm starting to think my score is going to ruin everything. Best of luck to you!
