I can certainly echo your doubts. All of my closest friends and family are staying in my home city and some of them are pursuing MAs and they're also engaged or in serious relationships. I, on the other hand, am in Germany for a year and then moving across the country for a PhD program (or at least that's my hope) and my boyfriend broke up with me when I decided to move to Germany. I know I could stay home and find a job (and maybe a boyfriend), but I -know- I want my PhD, so I feel like I just have to suck it up for a bit

thank you for sharing the story about your parents. i can be easy to lose sight of what you were initially after during this process, but MAKING it work is certainly a smart thing to keep in mind. thanks :)
