FAFSA Time!

Jan 01, 2008 20:15

Just wanted to remind you guys that you can start filling out your FAFSA.

www.fafsa.ed.gov

The website will tell you deadlines for your state/schools.

Kind of sucks to be filling this out right after applications though!

fafsa, financial aid

One good thing is that now I am classified as an independent student so I don't need to wait on my parents' tax info. This means I can actually finish my FAFSA before the deadline!

The bad thing is that loans are pretty much the only option. :(

Yeah that's why I don't even want to fill one out. I really am not willing to go into more debt.

Wait a second.... you fill out a FAFSA before you even know if you are accepted anywhere?

Yes, since you'll most likley find out acceptances after the FAFSA deadline, which I think is sometime in March.

I know for schools in California the deadline is March 2, but they can be earlier or later depending on the state/school.

It's a good idea to just fill one out, since you probably will get in SOMEWHERE (right???), and you'd want to be prepared. You can choose which schools to send your FAFSA info too, and whatever school you decide to attend will have access to it.

If I am going to get married in July, will this have an effect on my FAFSA? I hope that doesn't sound like a stupid question.

To clarify: I am currently a dependant on my parents' taxes, but come July I will not be, and I start school (if accepted) in August.

As a grad student, you are already automatically classified as independent.

I don't know much about the marriage thing, except that you may be required to add info about your (future) spouse's income on the FAFSA.

You might want to call FAFSA people and confirm witht hem. I never want to mess around when it comes to funding!

Congrats and good luck!
