Frankly, yeah, it does seem strange. How closely related? Have you discussed this with any faculty (here, there, anywhere)? My gut reaction is that the second program probably wouldn't take you if you already had an MA in something closely related, unless they just wanted your $$$. Why do you feel you need both MAs, instead of moving on to a Ph.D., for example?

What are the fields? If both are closely related, why not just go for a PhD after the first MA, and combine the two fields of study? It shouldn't be too difficult to find programs that are inter-disciplinary, or work on both areas as part of your thesis research.

I know of people that have two MAs, but they mostly take them because the fields are different and they need the specialized knowledge to handle a specific area of research, or to enter a new field(eg. psychology and chinese studies; geography and information systems).
