Worrying Events (for a traveler)

Especially in consideration of my planned travel...

1. The Hatton Cross gas leak during my trip in.
2. The two failed London car bombs.
3. Now a burning vehicle, presumably with aggressive intentions, colliding with the Glasgow AirportOne first hopes that these are entirely random and disconnected, but in the unfortunate event that they are not, ( Read more... )

Oh come on, don't be a wuss - people are always bombing London, full of rage against the slappers/poufs/Brits/er...
Glasgow is new, I'll give you that, but well, burkesworks mentioned this chap's summary: "muppets of the apocalypse", couldn't put it better.

I do still wish that Richard Reid hadn't tried to bomb an aeroplane with his bloody shoe though - every time I have to take my shoes off for security. Loser [grinds teeth]. Fsckwitted £$%£%^$%%(*&^ !!!

Yes yes, we all know this - but I'd rather not be inconvenienced by an Iron Curtain security plan thrown into effect because of these idiots...especially as a lone youngish male traveler of darkish complexion who will have Milan, Frankfurt, London, and Prague all recently stamped in his passport - tell me that won't send databots on my derrier?

We're not Germans! (A colleague of the weasels, whose middle name was Herman in honour of his uncle who got the Iron Cross for being shot down bombing Russia, was most peeved to be slow-tracked through immigration behind all his colleague (who, coincidentally, did not share his Sri Lanken ancestry... coff coff)).
Wear a big bright shirt, carry a surfboard and tell them you've been setting up indoor surfing centres LOL

Frankly, I'm not worried about British authorities in Britain/Heathrow. With a couple of notorious examples against, I have found your lot to be very efficient and carefully targeted. I'm much more concerned about those notorious examples perhaps reflecting undue influence of US intelligence sources and TSA techniques, foisted on your people ... besides facing that gauntlet 'at home' myself.

One first hopes that these are entirely random and disconnected

On the contrary, i hope they are connected; it means there's one half-arsed terrorist cell running round the place, rather than two.

They caught the Glasgow guys red-handed (literally; one was on fire), which is a first; will be interesting to see how much useful information they got out of them.

Well, given that neither the Madrid or London transport bombings were done without suicide tactics, those responsible parties survived with skills and experience (I can only assume the authorities caught all the right people with regard to these incidents - but I don't know). That leaves neophytes to fill the gaps - so it stands to reason.

re: connected - you do realise how tired I am of all this terrorist distraction? Seriously - we have many bigger problems to deal with, and the whole lot of these muppets (even the effective ones) are causing far greater harm through their resource distraction than they are in the pinprick incidents they conspire and implement.

re: useful information - you mean besides screaming in constant pain from 3rd degree burns and exposed nerves?

Your Muppets of the Apocalypse link is brilliant. I was voicing a vaguely similar opinion earlier - MI5 have stopped all the serious plots, but let a few absurd ones, like this and the shoe bomber [1], run their course just to keep the level of public fear high, so the funding and new powers keep rolling.

Yes, getting worked up about teh terr is a big waste of time and energy. But people are going to do it; the best thing we can do is get it out of the way so we can get back to serious business.

I'm assuming Dr Ahmed will, perhaps ironically, enjoy the best treatment available courtesy of the NHS before being questioned. He'll probably be dead of MRSA before they get a peep out of him.

Oh, happy National Patriotic Terrorism Day, by the way :).

National Patriotic Terrorism Day, by the way :).

Indeed, and thank you. I could be celebrating it at the Misch Masch tonight, but no ... instead, I'm heading for a scenic flight over Brno. Actually, the latter may in fact be better. Hopefully all will go well without incident.
