Yes Boys and Girls, "departure" seems to be the word of the day.

No no no. The electorate vote for an MP to represent them in the Commons. No ifs, no buts (a small 'but' - the candiates are allowed to say what political party they are standing for from a list registered with the Electoral Commission - even this is new, it used to be that one could put anything one likes down on the paper to describe yourself, up to 6 words).

Sure, but the value of the elected representative is strongly linked to their party's platform, and the ability of that representative to get that done - assuming the platform is a bunch of policies you would like to see happen.
