I loved this issue too. While my initial reaction was mostly 'PHILLIPUS OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!1!', later I took time to appreciate the rest of it as well. To be fair to JMS, we don't really know how much of this is his notes and how much of it is Hester (the talking cat, for instance, was JMS' idea) - Hester gets the credit because this issue is a breather from the non-stop action and zero characterisation of the previous four issues. We don't know if JMS wouldn't have done the same thing. That said, I do think the relatively lighter tone is Hester, as well as the fleshing out of the Amazons and the addition of PHILLIPUS WITH AN EYEPATCH (I'm sorry, this is all I've been talking about in Tumblr ever since I read the issue ( ... )

Well there really is such a marked difference between this issue and the last few, and while JMS has had some really cool ideas (his version of the Oracle, for example, which I found really interesting), his execution was less stellar. I have no doubt that the cat, maybe even the appearance of Phillipus, the Amazon sorority house, and the music are all from JMS's outline, but really, the writing is what made such a great difference, and that was all Hester.

And IA, the pawnshop scene disturbed me a little. I mean, crushing the cash register? That was jarring, to say the least.

it's at once adorable and screwed up. Totally. I loved Diana being all sheepish when Phillipus went all tough love on her ( ... )

Yeah, no denying that Hester infused a lot of charm and heart into the story. The Ruckaesque feel of the Amazon Mansion was also awesome, though I'm already seeing people complain about the PS3 and heavy metal.

And IA, the pawnshop scene disturbed me a little. I mean, crushing the cash register? That was jarring, to say the least.

It fits with NuDiana, though. She's very straightforward in her approach - she's young and strong and determined that she's doing the right thing, so what's in a little intimidation, right? Except that she's relying on brute strength and not using her brain, which worked in this case because she's picking on someone weaker than her. The Morrigan are clearly very smart, and Diana SMASH will *not* work on them. Heck, she's already been PWND in the end of 605 - I'm looking forward to watching her grow up.

I haven't read Generation Lost and Flashpoint yet, but from what Wiki has told me, it sounds kinda exciting. And Diana playing a big part in an event!I haven't read GL either, but it's interesting that ( ... )

OMG I FORGOT TO RANT TO YOU ABOUT JMS ABANDONING THE TITLE.

I WAS ALL AKUFHSKGJDF BUT APPARENTLY IT'S A GOOD THING???

Wow, I'm so eloquent. This issue is way better than what we've been given so far, but I'm still pretty eh about it. Maybe it's because I still yearn for old!Diana.:c

Also, the art makes me rage at times.

And I want to bring up the Generation Lost thing, too. Apparently, Diana has disappeared from the main universe. Which is weird, since I always thought she was still there, because after she "fixes" the AU, it would go back to normal. And she was there in Return of Bruce Wayne.:| Whatever, I won't even bother figuring out the timelines of DCU.

YESSSS IT WAS A GOOD THING.

I want Old!Diana too, but this one is at least a little bit closer to her than the angsty one for the past few issues. She has a personality, for one. And a talking cat!

Lol I'm marathoning the entire JLA run (you should read Joe Kelly stuff, his Diana is great as well!), so the art doesn't really bother me. There have been waaay worse Dianas in history. Rucka's run had horrible art!

Gah I have a lot of catching up to do. I Wiki'd stuff, and Idk, I found Diana disappearing to be intriguing. :)) Wait, doesn't Generation Lost come after Return of Bruce Wayne (<- something else that confused the hell out of me, btw, but good to have Bruce back)?

A personality, but one that doesn't necessarily appeal to me. Yes, I am the pickiest person ever. The talking cat is badass but I can't help but feel it might turn traitor at the end or something.

I've read the entire JLA run with Diana in it. Yeah, she was awesome! And some of the art is atrocious. Especially JLA 90 and when she had that super straight hair.

If you want to read all the Diana stuff ever, here is the list of all her appearances post-Crisis. Starting from George Perez to now.

Isn't that the point though? That this isn't really the real Diana yet, and we're eventually getting there? I don't have any issues with this reincarnation of Diana because I know this *isn't* her--costume, personality, whole nine yards.

And god, people don't really know how to write her. Most of the time she gets in a "Great Hera!" during the run. Also, there was this one issue where Batman sees something surprising, forgot what, and goes, "Great H--" Hee. &hearts

THANK YOU for that list! I'm about to go into the entire Blackest Night run after reading all 125 issues of JLA v2. I love Christmas break.
